Back by popular demand, the Tread of Pioneers Museum’s Winter Films Series returns to the historic Chief Theater select dates December through March at 6pm. Everyone’s invited to come out of the cold and into the warm and cozy Chief Theater to see all the fascinating films we have in store for you.
The film series is a partnership and outreach program between the Tread of Pioneers Museum and the Chief Theater that brings history, art, and entertainment under one roof. All events are approximately one hour total.

Gold Mining in Colorado
Rocky Mountain PBS’ Colorado Experience explores stories of women who held their own in the harsh landscapes in Colorado mining towns in “Ladies of the Mines.” How those mining towns came to be and what remain today is detailed in “Ghost Towns.”

The Early Days of Mount Werner
Newly received home movie footage from the Werner family; “Stormy: the Story of a Mountain and a Man,” featuring Jim Temple’s story of developing the Storm Mountain (now Steamboat) ski resort; and “Mt. Werner,” a 1967 early promotional film.

“The Last Ridge: The Uphill Battles of the 10th Mountain Division”
A documentary film about World War II’s 10th Mountain Division’s mission in the mountains of Italy to knock the Germans from their impenetrable perch. Learn how the ski troops turned the tide for the Allies in Italy and revolutionized winter sports at home. Plus see the museum’s clip of Steamboat’s favorite local veteran and Olympian, Gordy Wren, as he remembers his time with the 10th Mountain troops.
